Department of Food and Resource Economics (Institut for Fødevare- og Ressourceøkonomi) carries out basic, applied and business-oriented social science and humanities research in a multidisciplinary setting, embracing economics, law, sociology, political science, development studies and bioethics. The department focuses on contributing to solutions of global issues.

It is the only university department in Denmark specializing in food and natural resource economics.[1]

Institut for Fødevare- og Ressourceøkonomi (IFRO) was founded January 1, 2013, by the merger of Fødevareøkonomisk Institut (FOI) and Afdeling for Økonomi, Politik og Driftsplanlægning ved Skov & Landskab.[2] The department is anchored in the University of Copenhagen Faculty of Science (SCIENCE). The department is located in Frederiksberg, Denmark.

Organization[edit]

The head of the department is Professor Bo Jellesmark Thorsen.

The department consists of a management group, four cross-disciplinary and cross-sectional research sections, and an administrative support unit.

Department of Food and Resource Economics (IFRO) has its origins in the traditions and methodology developed in the Danish agriculture, forestry and food production sectors, in which the close consultative relationships developed between the private sector, public authorities[3] and research institutions contributed significantly to positive outcomes.
