Derek A. Smith
Derek Allen Smith (born September 28, 1063) is an American actor, author, speaker, cybersecurity expert, and former Federal Agent. In the U.S. he is known for his appearances in a number of movies, television, and commercials. He portrayed CIA Agent Nick in the film Operation Las Vegas[1] a televangelist in "The Meek" [2] a Secret Service Agent in the 1997 film National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets[3] , and a Washington DC Metropolitan Police Officer in "The Invasion" starring Daniel Craig and Nicole Kidman [4] . Derek has also acted in a number of other movie, television, and commercial roles. [5]
He is also a leading cybersecurity expert, speaker and author and has published several books on cybersecurity. His most important work to date is Cybersense: The Leader's Guide to Protecting Critical Information,[6] and its companion action guide with the same title. [7] Derek also wrote, "Conversational Digital Forensics Analysis" [8], and "Conversational User Behavior Analytics"[9]. Derek also wrote a chapter for the book "Cybersecurity in Our Digital Lives (Protecting Our Future)"[10] and was the technical reviewer for "Privileged Attack Vectors: Building Effective Cyber-Defense Strategies to Protect Organizations" [11] and "Asset Attack Vectors: Building Effective Vulnerability Management Strategies to Protect Organizations."[12]
Derek is also a former 18 year Federal Agent serving in the military and several federal agencies.
Personal life[edit]
Derek was born in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Geraldine Smith (née Evans), a homemaker and seamstress, and Langston James Smith, a retired Chicago Public School Engineer. He is the oldest of five sons. His parents are from Birmingham, Alabama. Derek was raised Baptist.
Derek graduated from Roseland Community High School located in Chicago, Illinois in 1981. After high school, he joined the US Navy Reserve. Derek also served 15 years in the US Air Force and retired from the US Army National Guard.
Derek has earned nine college degrees including a Doctorate degree in Organizational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University, an MBA from the University of Phoenix, an M.S. in IT Project Management form American Intercontinental University, An MS in Information technology/Information Assurance from the University of Maryland, University College, an MS in Digital Forensics from Champlain College and a B.S in Education from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He also has an A.S in Criminal Justice, and an A.S in Computing and Information Technology, A.S in Information Systems.
Derek is once divorced and currently remarried with a daughter from his first marriage and twin daughters from his second.

Television[edit]
Derek has been acting in film and television since 1987, starting with a small role in "Over the Top" starring Sylvester Stallone [13] . His television roles include two appearances in "Crime Story"[14][15], Nasty Boys[16], The System [17], Nightbreaker[18] and America's Most Wanted [19], among others.
Derek has appeared on RT News, BBC, al Jazeera world news, & local news as a cyber-security expert & been quoted in news write-ups and radio interviews. He has spoken on the Trump Presidency[20] , Social Engineering [21], Big Data Analytics[22], Nanny Cams[23], Power Outages in the White House and State Department[24], and others.

Derek has appeared in a number of commercials, public service announcements and industrial films including a number for the IRS[26] and Pentagon Federal Credit Union[27].
Martial Art DVDs[edit]
Derek has starred in three martial arts training DVD produced by Threat Response Solutions teaching his special brand of martial arts based on his over 20 - year law enforcement and military career. Brutal Beyond Belief[28], Special Agent Kill Moves[29], and Special Agent Combative System[29]
Federal Agent and Federal Career[edit]
Derek also spent 18 years as a Federal Agent. He served in the Air Force Office of Special Investigations, The Army Criminal Investigations Division, Treasury Office of the Inspector General, Postal Service Inspector General, and Department of Education Office of the Inspector General. He is currently an Information Technology Supervisor for the Internal Revenue Service.
Derek holds a number of cyber security professional certifications including Certified Chief Information Security Officer, Certified Information Systems Security Professional, Certified Ethical Hacker, Certified Hacking Forensic Investigator, Security+, Computer Network Defense Architect, Certified Authorization Professional Certified SCADA Security Architect & Certified EC-Council Instructor (CEI) certifications.
Derek is the Founder of the National Cyber Security Education Center[30] & an expert live-webinar presenter for BeyondTrust[31]. He is an Associate Professor at the University of Maryland, University College and the Virginia University of Science and Technology and has taught for over 25 years in business, education and cyber security.
