Derek "DC" Cannon (born October 23, 1986), also known as MixedByDC, is an American audio engineer, record producer, and musician.[1] DC's career started in Chicago, Il around 2005, producing song for local artists. In the early 2010's DC rose to prominence as one of Chicago's go to engineers, working with groups like SAVEMONEY and Glory Boyz.[2] He has worked in many genres, but specializes in Hip-Hop, Reggae, R&B and Pop. In 2017, DC designed and built a custom studio in the Complex2010 facilities.[3] He has worked in studios in Chicago and Atlanta, and is currently based in Los Angeles.

Personal Life

Derek was born in Milwaukee, WI in 1986. He spent his early years between Milwaukee, Chicago, and Florida. He currently resides in Los Angeles, CA.[4]

Career

In 2009, DC graduated from Columbia College Chicago with a Bachelor's Degree in Audio Arts and Acoustics.[4]

Between 2009-2011, DC was an intern and assistant engineer at Pressure Point Recording Studios in Chicago, Il.[4]

Between 2009-2011 DC worked with notable acts such as Chance The Rapper, Vic Mensa, Brian Fresco, Kami, Towkio, Vic Spencer, and BJ The Chicago Kid.[5][6]

In late 2011, DC moved to Atlanta, GA. He met 2 Chainz and Dolla Boy of Playaz Circle, and began working with them out of their Dufflebag Boyz Studio. There he worked with Young Money, CTE, Jagged Edge, "KY" Finis, Honorable C Note, Cap 1, and others.[4][7]

In 2012, DC moved back to Chicago as the Drill scene was taking off. He started working with Chief Keef, Lil Reese, SD, Fredo Santana, Tray Savage, Lil Bibby, Lil Durk, King L, Z Money, Bandman Kevo, Katie Got Bandz, and others in and out of the scene.[8]

In 2014, DC opened up his own room out of the Complex2010 facilities.[9][10]

In late 2016, DC briefly moved to Los Angeles, beginning work with Bam Marley, Lorine Chia, Mereba, and others.[11]

In 2017, the Complex2010 moved to a new warehouse location on the south side of Chicago, and DC designed and built his own custom room.[12] Recording artist Tink has recorded multiple Gold records in that room.

In 2019, DC moved to Los Angeles. He helped to construct One Stop Studios, and has since worked with Trevor Daniel, Simi, and others.[13]
