Derek Rose is a British clothing designer, manufacturer and retailer, founded in England in 1938. The brand specialises in sleepwear, loungewear and leisurewear for men, women and children and men’s resort wear and underwear.

History[edit]

The Rose family first entered the design and manufacture of men’s clothing when Jack Lewis Rose set up Bonsoir in 1926. Derek Rose, Jack Rose’s son, joined his father in the business in 1953 until the business was sold in 1961 to Spark Holdings.[1]. After Spark Holdings, then called Heenan Spark, went into receivership in 1975 Bonsoir was sold to Celestion[1]. Derek Rose left the company and bought HH Winder Ltd, changing the name to Derek Rose Pyjamas Ltd in 1981 and then Derek Rose Ltd in 2004. Since 1975 the company’s UK manufacturing base has been in Congleton, Cheshire. In 2003 Sacha Rose, Derek Rose’s son, joined and then took over the business. He sought to modernise the business with the introduction of further clothing categories including loungewear in 2007[2], underwear[3], leisurewear and resort wear, whilst embracing the heritage and history of the brand. The brand further branched in to the kids market, offering a sleepwear range.[4]

In addition to selling through their own ecommerce website, Derek Rose products can be found in luxury retail locations across over 50 countries, including Selfridges, Harvey Nicholls, Harrods in the UK, El Corte Inglés in Spain, Galeries Lafayette in Paris, as well as independent retailers.
