Derek Scissors is an American economist currently serving as a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute and chief economist at the China Beige Book.
Education
Scissors earned a BA in economics from the University of Michigan, a MA in economics from the University of Chicago, and a PhD in international political economy from Stanford University.[1][2]
Career
From 1989 to 1990, Scissors worked at the US Department of Defense as an action officer in international economics and energy.[2]
He then worked in academia for many years, first as a lecturer at Lingnan University from 1994 to 1997, then as an adjunct instructor at George Washington University from 2001 to 2015.[1][2]
During that time, Scissors also worked for Intelligence Research Ltd. in London (1998–2008) and as a senior research fellow at the Asian Studies Center of The Heritage Foundation (2013–2018). [2]
In 2013, he began working at China Beige Book, where he remains as of 2023.[1][2]
Additionally, from 2021 to 2022, Scissors was a member of the US-China Economic and Security Review Commission.[3]
