Derek Shook (Photographer)
Derek "the Paparazzo" Shook (Born April, 1965) is an American Celebrity, Entertainment and Sports Photographer.
Early Life[edit]
Shook was born in Bryan, Texas, the son of Charles and Norma Shook. He has three siblings.
During his youth, he worked for the Houston Astros as a Batboy, and for the Houston Rockets as the Visiting Clubhouse Manager.
Shook attended Southwest Texas State University, San Marcos, Texas where he earned a Bachelors of Arts in Cultural Anthropology (1988). Shook was also a popular figure on the local Radio Station broadcast from the University.
Career[edit]
Shook began his photography career at an early age. He was given his first camera at the age of 6.
Immediately after College, he moved to Maui, Hawaii where he began to interact with the Hollywood elite. Published his first Celebrity Photograph in December 1999.
During the late 1980's, Derek Shook took his skills underwater while managing a Hawaii Vacation / Underwater Video Production Company in Maui, Hawaii.
His photographs can be seen in in numerous magazines and movies around the world. He is best known for his role as the Paparazzo in the critically acclaimed documentary by legendary Saturday Night Live Comedian Mike Meyers entitled Supermensch : The Legend of Shep Gordon (2013), the film won the Hollywood Film Award for Best Documentary of the year.
Shook has had photographs appear on the covers and inside hundreds of weekly magazines including Star Magazine (Oct 2009), Us Weekly (Dec. 2009), The National Enquirer (Dec. 2009), People Magazine (June 2010). Life and Style (June 2010), Rolling Stone Magazine (Sept 2010), The Globe (2010), Hello Magazine (2011), Daily Mail (Dec 2017) Vogue (Dec 2017).
Donated earnings from Nathan Fillion Birthday Bash Photographs in People Magazine to the Charity Kusewera (2014).
A fan favorite of the Hollywood Elite, celebrity and entertainment photography Mr. Shook can often be found on the front lines covering major news stories or on the red carpet and streets of some of the most prestigious film festivals in the world. He is currently working as a Photographer, Screenwriter and Executive Producer on his first full length Motion Picture project to be filmed in Australia, Hawaii and Hollywood.
