Derius is a sports club from Jokela, Finland. The club was formed in 1990 and has specialized in football, bandy, and floorball. The men's football first team currently plays in the Kutonen (Sixth Division) and their home ground is at Jokelan kenttä. The men's bandy team plays in Section 2 (Lohko 2) of the Second Division and is known as Derius Tuusula, playing their matches in Järvenpää.
Background[edit]
Derius's men's football team has competed in the lower divisions of the Finnish football league since 1996. Initially, they made significant progress, gaining three promotions over four years—rising from the Kutonen (Sixth Division) in 1997, Vitonen (Fifth Division) in 1999, and Nelonen (Fourth Division) in 2000—before reaching the Kolmonen (Third Division) in 2001 where they were quickly relegated at the end of the season.
Since then, Derius has experienced a downward slide, dropping back into the Kutonen (Sixth Division) where they began. In 2006 and 2007, they lacked players and fielded a joint team with neighbors Jokelan Kisa. In 2008 and 2009, the club was unable to field any teams in the Finnish football league. However, in 2010, they bounced back and are now fielding two teams in the Kutonen (Sixth Division), namely Derius and Derius/JAKki.
