Dernatinus
Dernatinus[1][2] (fl. 1st century AD) was a Berber philosopher[3] and writer who is credited with being one of the first people to write about Christianity from a Berber perspective. He is also said to have traveled to the Americas, centuries before the arrival of Christopher Columbus.[4]
Early life
Dernatinus was born in the Berber kingdom of Numidia[5] (now Algeria[6]) in the 1st century AD. He is said to have been a highly educated man, with a deep knowledge of Berber culture and philosophy. He was also familiar with Ancient Greek philosophy and Ancient Roman philosophy, as well as the teachings of Jesus Christ[7].
Works
Dernatinus wrote several books, including one on the history of the Berbers and another on the teachings of Jesus. His books were widely read in the Tamazgha and had a significant influence on Berber thought.[8]
In his book on the history of the Berbers, Dernatinus[9] argued that the Berbers were one of the oldest and most civilized peoples in the world. He also claimed that the Berbers were the first people to build the Egyptian pyramids and to invent the techniques of mummification.[10]
In his book on the teachings of Jesus, Dernatinus presented a unique Berber interpretation of Christianity. He argued that Jesus was a Berber prophet who was sent by God to teach the world about love and compassion. Dernatinus also emphasized the importance of social justice and equality in his interpretation of Christianity.[11]
