Descendant of Thieves is a New York City-based private fashion apparel brand that is best known for manufacturing menswear in limited batches.[1][2][3] The brand was founded by Dres Ladro and Matteo Maniatty in 2009.[4][5]
History[edit]
Descendant of Thieves was founded in 2009 by Dres Ladro and Matteo Maniatty. The name of the brand traces back to Dres’ early childhood, when his father nicknamed him Ladro - thief in Italian – for stealing, de-seaming, and reengineering his garments to create his own look.[6]
In 2018 and 2019, Descendant of Thieves took part in the New York Men’s fashion week and showcased their collection at the New York Men's Day events.[7]
Descendant of Thieves has never accepted outside investor money. The brand is owned and managed by Designer Dres Ladro, Creative Director Matteo Maniatty, and Suwana Perry.[8]
Locations[edit]
Descendant of Thieves opened its first retail store on Bleecker Street in New York City in November 2018.[9][10] The retail location also offers programming events, such as performances, art exhibitions and community events.[11][12]
Brand[edit]
The Descendant of Thieves brand is rooted in independence and individualism and is best known for its colorful interiors, concealed pockets and hidden messaging.[13] The designs are said to be inspired by Dres Ladro and Matteo Maniatty's Mediterranean heritage. Besides Descendant of Thieves' brick and mortar and online business, the company also sells wholesale.[14]
