Desimartini[2][3], is a movie rating and Review aggregator website that carries online databases and content for Bollywood, Hollywood, and regional film industries, TV, and web series. Desimartini allows fans to rate and review movies, as well as contribute content related to movies and celebrities. The website was bought by Firefly e-Ventures, a HT Media company in November 2007 and is now a subsidiary of HT Digital[4].
History
History before website
Firefly eVentures Ltd[5][6], the online subsidiary of HT Media Ltd, had acquired Desimartini.com for less than $10 million in 2007[7][8]. Desimartini.com was then an India-based social media platform and had a membership of 2.5 lakh. Desimartini was founded by Vivek Pahwa[9][10] and Dhruv Gupta, who aimed to integrate the best features of social networks like Orkut, MySpace, and Friendster on Desimartini.
As HT Media subsidiary (2007 – present)
Post its acquisition by HT Media, Desimartini was converted into a movie rating and reviews website[11][12]. With the aim of becoming the voice of the public, the website invited audiences to rate and review movies. Besides this, the website also offers information such as storylines, trailers, songs, photos, and a short verdict on each movie[13]
On the web
Based on data from comScore data between October 2016 to March 2017, Desimartini, with over 7,000+ audience reviewers, 3.5 million+ user movie ratings, and a database of over 4,000 movies across six different industries (Bollywood, Hollywood, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam), was ranked as India’s second-largest movie website[14], second only to IMDb.[15][16] In 2017, the website opened up its UGC portal inviting audiences to voice their opinions around movies as content contributors. In 2018, the website introduced vanity pages where users can create and maintain their own profiles and also follow other users. These pages track user activity on the website.
Owner
Desimartini is operated by the HT Media Group. Shobhana Bhartia[17] is the Chairperson and Editorial Director of the Hindustan Times Group, and Rajiv Bansal is the CEO of HT Digital Streams[18]

Desimartini caters to entertainment content and databases. The website allows engagement by audiences on multiple levels and also generates a user profile for all logged-in users.
User ratings of Movies
This website allows audiences to write reviews for particular movies and rate the film on a rating scale of 5 stars[19]. Posting a movie review is simply a matter of logging onto the website; then, the user can write and submit the review as per the instructions given. The movie reviewing system at Desimartini comes via MJs (Movie Jockeys). Movie Jockeys[20] are special users whose opinions carry special weight in the reviewing process, along with getting significant highlights on the website and social media.
Follow a Celebrity
Any user can follow a celebrity on their pages and get all the latest updates related to them in their inbox. Desimartini also sends email updates to users for the followed celebrities.
User Generated Content
Users can write content for Desimartini via its UGC (User-generated content) portal[21]. Audiences can write articles related to their movie experiences, shows they like, or anything movie-related that they want to tell the world. The articles submitted are moderated and also featured on the users’ profiles[22]

The movie databases include aggregate ratings[23] and user reviews, descriptions, trivia, and news based on movies. The celebrity pages carry biographies, filmographies, pictures, videos, news, and videos related to the celebrity, while movie pages trace the journey of the film from its announcement to the Box office. A user can also follow a celebrity on their pages and get all the latest updates related to them in their inbox.

The website also has a portal to the world of celebrities, with content on 11,500+ celebrities. The website also includes a comprehensive database of celebrity Filmography, which has around 5,000 movies with everything from the budget to the run time to the movies’ collections.

This digital entertainment platform not only provides trailers, teasers, and sneak peeks from current as well as upcoming releases but also regularly uploads videos on the hottest entertainment industry news, interviews with celebrities, and often even live-streams some of these interviews on its Facebook and YouTube channels. They also regularly upload in-house productions on audience movie reactions and reviews, box office predictions, trailer breakdowns, and reactions.
