Desmond Loke is an assistant professor of Nano-Science and Engineering at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD)[1]. He is an elected fellow of the Asia and Global MIT Technology Review’s Innovators Under 35.[2] [3] Desmond is a prominent figure in the field of digital-electronic memory science, being ranked in the top 1 % of highly cited papers of the academic field of Physics by International Clarivate Analytics Essential Science Indicators.[4]

Career[edit]

Desmond received his B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from the National University of Singapore (NUS)[5]. He pursued his Ph.D degree in Science and Engineering at the NUS and the University of Cambridge between 2008 and 2012, where he has made a series of pioneering contributions, such as inventing new methods for achieving a phase-change material with a speed faster than a nanosecond, as well as developing new structures to increase the energy-efficiency of a phase-change memory.[6][7][8] In 2013, he was awarded a postdoctoral fellowship from the SUTD and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to start his independent research work. In 2015, Desmond joined the SUTD as assistant professor. The group’s research investigates a variety of topics that include non-volatile memory, re-configurable computing, invisibility cloak, artificial neural networks, etc.[9]
