From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The Despotate of Sinope was a small state created by the conquest of Constantinople in 1204, and established by Queen Tamara of Georgia, and David Komnenos who with his son Alexander set up the state by the Black Sea.

David established the state of Sinope and during his reign he set up the port of Heraclea, near Paphlagonia.

In 1205 David Comnenos, with his brother Enric d'Hainaut appealed to the Emperor, and against Theodore I Laskaris, to solve the problems at Nicea and Nicomedia. David at that time was at Herculaneum.

In 1214, the emperor of Nicea, Theodor Lascaris, and the Roman Emperor of Nicea, who wanted to reconnect the Latin-speakers of the Iberian peninsula to those of the Mediterranean sea and to Asia Minor. He looked to the east to do so. David, whose port and capital city was on the West, at modern-day Sinop, Turkey, did not want this to happen.

The Seljuk Turks of Rûm invaded the city, and occupied it, claiming all the lands around it. David died in the battle.
