Deval Tibrewalla
Deval Tibrewalla is an Indian hotelier, entrepreneur, and business leader who serves as the CEO and Director of the Hotel Polo Towers Group, the largest hospitality chain in Northeast India.[1][2]
Early life and education
Deval Tibrewalla is a fifth generation entrepreneur from Shillong, Meghalaya.[1] He completed his schooling in Assam and higher studies in Kolkata.[3] Deval graduated as the valedictorian of his class from the prestigious Ecole Hoteliere de Lausanne in Switzerland, regarded as the world's leading hospitality management institute.[2] He also holds a Bachelor's degree in Commerce (Accounting and Finance) from St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata.[2]
Career
At an early age, Tibrewalla started his career at Hotel Polo Towers, Shillong, working through trainee positions in other hospitality brands such as Park Hotels and the Café Coffee Day Group.[2] He went on to launch Chrome Hotel in Kolkata, India’s first design hotel, at age 23.[2] Under his leadership, the Hotel Polo Towers Group expanded outside Meghalaya to own and operate hotels and resorts in Kolkata, Allahabad, Jabalpur, Agartala, and Neermahal, and developed new properties in Goa and Kaziranga.[1] As of 2025, the group operates nine hotels and is building more, with notable properties including Shillong’s premium Hotel Polo Towers, Polo Cherrapunjee Resort, and Agartala’s first five-star hotel.[4]
He is credited for developing North East India's largest hotel chain by identifying market gaps in regions previously overlooked by mainstream tourist maps and delivering superior hospitality experiences.[1][4] Tibrewalla’s vision includes investments in ready, branded hotel assets and creating new tourism experiences such as a state-of-the-art museum complex in Shillong.[2]
Hotel Polo Towers Group is a renowned hospitality firm in India, primarily operating upscale and midscale hotels and resorts in the Northeast, East, and North regions of the country under the 'Polo' and 'Max' brands.[5][6] Its portfolio comprises nine operational hotels and resorts with an aggregate inventory of 425 keys, alongside 17 on-premise cafés and restaurants.[5]
In September 2025, Hotel Polo Towers Group filed its Draft Red Herring Prospectus (DRHP) with SEBI, marking its intention to launch an initial public offering (IPO). The proposed IPO is the only mainboard IPO of a company from North East India.[5][6] The funds raised will be used for expansion, refurbishment of properties, debt repayment, and general corporate purposes. The issue will be managed by Equirus Capital Private Limited and Motilal Oswal Investment Advisors Limited, with shares expected to be listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchance (NSE).[5][6]
