Devid Debbarma

Devid Debbarma (born October 15, 1990) is the present Chief Organising Secretary of Twipra Students Federation (TSF), a nationalist student organisation of Tripura. He was born in Ratanpur Village, Khowai District, and now resides in Agartala, Tripura. Mr. Debbarma was very active in the movement to revoke the AFSPA from the state. Mr. Devid Debbarma joined TSF for the better development of indigenous people of Tripura in terms of education of indigenous youth and in terms of socio-economic development among the indigenous community of Tripura.

About TSF: The Federation was founded on 25 October 1968 A.D. as ‘Tribal Student's Federation’ as a platform for nationalist student's federation of Tripura, specially among the indigenous people of Tripura. It's a non-political party and not a student wing of any party. One of its primary objectives was to protect and fight for the rights of the indigenous people of the state. Since its inception, TSF has made significant contributions towards bringing justice to indigenous students, youth and people of Tripura. But perhaps, one of the most important aspects of the Federation has been ‘to speak truth to power’. Over the years the Federation has raised its voice against dam construction and alienation of indigenous peoples' land and lifting up of APFSA(Armed Forces Special Powers Acts) from the state. In a state like Tripura where the indigenous people have been reduced to a politically insignificant minority and pushed to the margin, the majority has become the minority in its own land. The indigenous people of Tripura are a victim of identity crisis in their own state. The majority has become the minority in its own land. It is from that margin we have challenged and struggled against anti-indigenous people policies of the state. In 1996 the Federation rechristened as “Twipra Student's Federation” in order to encapsulate its nationalistic attributes around the World. The Twipra Student Federation also has its branches in Shillong, Guwahati, Bangalore, Chennai, Dehradun, etc.
