Dialister histaminiformans is a Gram-negative, facultatively anaerobic species of bacterium in the family Veillonellaceae. It produces histamine through the decarboxylation of histidine, which serves as its principal energy-yielding pathway.[1]

Characteristics

Cells are ovoid, non-motile, and non-spore-forming, and occur in pairs or chains. The species was originally isolated from the rumen of grain-fed cattle, with additional isolates recovered from bovine feces and the cecum of a horse.[1]

Taxonomy

The species was originally described as Allisonella histaminiformans. It was the type and only species of the genus Allisonella.[1][2]

In 2025, the species was transferred to Dialister as Dialister histaminiformans.[3] This transfer resulted in Allisonella being treated as a later heterotypic synonym of Dialister.[2]
