Dialogue & Debate Association, a non-governmental Libyan youth organization with its main headquarters in Misrata. Through its vision of "Dialogue is a way of life", the Association seeks as an independent body to spread the values and principles of dialogue that call for respect for different points of view and accept criticism, for peace and renounce violence. The Association uses debate, rhetoric, and dialogue as tools to consolidate democracy and develop leadership skills among young people in Libya, which will ultimately contribute directly to equipping trained youth leaders working to create change in their societies. Since its establishment, the Association has organized hundreds of trainings in public speaking and debate basics in more than 16 different Libyan cities. These trainings varied from local training held in cities, universities and civil society institutions, to national training involving young people coming from various Libyan cities, in addition to training on virtual space (internet), especially after the Corona pandemic. As a result of these trainings, more than 7,000 young people from more than 36 cities and villages in Libya from its south, east, west and north have been trained in the basics of debate and have become debaters working to spread the values of dialogue in their local communities. And, as a direct result of these efforts, 16 local debate clubs were established in 16 different Libyan cities, in addition to a large number of other debate clubs that were established as an indirect result in different cities in Libya, thus producing a network of young people working within a framework for their clubs to spread the culture of dialogue, peaceful coexistence and social cohesion in Libya.
In the year 2015, and in the midst of the civil wars that were ravaging Libya during this period, the Association for Dialogue and Debate launched the project “Let our voice be heard,” in reference to the need for the youth’s voice calling for peace and denouncing violence to be heard. In this project, the Association used the debate tool in advocating for this cause, as more than 200 young people from more than 15 different cities in Libya were trained to debate in 3 inclusive youth forums, which ultimately contributed to stopping a number of wars in Libya.
In addition to all this, the Association succeeded in gathering young people from conflict areas in Libya, as was evident in the Misrata and Tawergha file, as it brought together young people from both cities in different workshops, the last of which was in the city of Tawergha in an initiative that is the first of its kind. Debate was used as a tool to discuss issues related to peace building, national reconciliation and the return of the displaced, and a number of peace initiatives between the two cities emerged from it, which resulted in the participation of 3 young people in the reconciliation committee mandated by the state, whose actions culminated in the signing of a reconciliation agreement in the month of Ramadan in the year 2018, which in turn enabled the displaced to safely return to their homes. This initiative at the national and international levels was considered one of the most prominent initiatives that played a role in the national reconciliation in Libya.
In addition to all this, the Association for Dialogue and Debating organized a number of advanced training in the field of debate, such as logic, rhetoric, arbitration, and debate trainers training, in addition to a number of local and national championships, and it also participated in equipping many teams that participated in several regional and international debate tournaments.
Now the Association has a team of coaches and arbitrators deployed in Libya who work in their local clubs and play their role in monitoring and developing the content of the debate, as the Association has qualified 90 young people in the field of debate management and arbitration residing in 24 different Libyan cities, in addition to 65 coaches spread in 16 Libyan cities.
History
Dialogue & Debate Association was established on March 4th, 2014, under the name of the Dialogue and Debate Club, which in turn was officially changed and obtained its new publicity under this name at the beginning of 2018, so it was transformed from just a club that brings together a group of amateurs, into an institution that operates more professionally, and is more inclusive, and in more regions.

Enhancing the role of youth in society and inspiring society through dialogue to move towards peacebuilding and development, and to reject violence and terrorism.

1. Youth development, and the development of the leadership role for youth in particular, and for society in general.

3. Changing the culture of Libyan youth and creating a new pattern that believes in pluralism and respects the other, regardless of their affiliation.
4. Educating the community about public issues through dialogue.
5. Adherence to the unity of the Libyan soil and preserve its social fabric in all its components.
