Diamond Cut Diamond is a surviving 1912 silent “Bunnyfinch” cross-dressing farce comedy short starring double act Flora Finch and John Bunny

John Bunny (Centre) in an advertisement for Diamond Cut Diamond as printed in The Bioscope [1]

Cast

  • Flora Finch as Mrs. Bunce
  • John Bunny as Mr. Bunce
  • Wallace Reid as Office Clerk #1
  • Richard Rosson as Office Clerk #2
  • Mae Costello as Telephone Operator

Advertising

Despite her minor role, many of the advertisements for Diamond focused on the presence of Mrs. Costello thanks to her marital link to vaudeville star Maurice Costello - a connection that Moving Picture World encouraged its exhibitors to capitalise on.[2]

Advertisements in British cinema magazine The Bioscope said of the film:

"Bright as they make 'em. Two bright ones, one a little brighter than the other. Everything about this comedy is bright."[3]

Reception

Moving Picture World called Diamond “funny in the extreme”, stating: “It will certainly fulfil its mission as a roaring comedy.”[4]
