Diana Vicezar (born January 3, 2001) is a Paraguayan entrepreneur, community organizer, user experience designer, and technologist. She is the founder of Mapis, a career platform for international undergraduate and graduate students in the United States; and Mymba Rayhu, an international youth-led initiative focused on raising awareness of the plight of stray dogs and the importance of accessible environmental education.[1] In 2018 she was recognized by her hometown Asuncion with the Youth Excellence Award[2]. In 2019, she was named the first Global Teen Leader from Paraguay by the We Are Family Foundation[3]. In 2020, Diana became the first Paraguayan to receive the Diana Award in memory of Princess Diana.[4]
Career[edit]
In 2017, Diana founded Mymba Rayhu, a youth-led initiative focused on raising awareness of the plight of stray dogs and the importance of accessible environmental education.[5][6][7] The initiative built shelters made from fully recycled materials for abandoned dogs, organized awareness campaigns, and educated students on environmental issues.[8][9][10]
In 2018, the United States Embassy in Paraguay recognized Diana as a Youth Ambassador from Paraguay.[11]
For her work as a young leader and entrepreneur, Vicezar was named one of the 33 most influential young social entrepreneurs of 2019 by the We Are Family Foundation.[12][13][14]
In 2020, Vicezar became Niche's first international ambassador, and created videos and articles about her experience as an international student in the United States.[15][16]
In September 2021, Diana represented Paraguay at the United Nations Youth4Climate event in Milan, Italy.[17] At the conference, she co-led a drafting proposal listing the demands and initiatives to create a more environmentally sustainable world that was presented to world leaders during the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference or COP26 in Glasgow.[18]
In February 2022, Vicezar launched Mapis, a career platform for international undergraduate and graduate students in the United States.[19] After connecting with over 100 international students during the summer and fall of 2020, Diana realized there was a desperate need for professional development resources and guidance tailored to the needs of international students in the US. She came up with the idea to build an effective platform that could centralize all the opportunities available to international students and provide them with more support throughout their career exploration.[20] Mapis helps international students in 30 US states find internships and entry-level job opportunities in the United States,[21] and has been featured by Forbes and Business Insider.[22]
In June 2022, Diana became the first Paraguayan woman to intern at Meta,[23][24][25] where she worked as a product design intern on the Responsible Innovation and Ethics team in Menlo Park, CA.[26][27][28]
Education[edit]
Diana studied at the Asuncion Escalada National HighSchool where she studied Computer Science. After graduating high school in 2018, she took a gap year and applied to universities in the United States.[29] In 2021, she was accepted to Pitzer College on a full scholarship and began her freshman year remotely from Paraguay due to the COVID 19 pandemic.[30] Diana is currently studying Cognitive Science with a focus in Computer Science and a minor in Data Science.[29]
