Bassa Zérehoué Diyilem (born April 3, 1992 in Bingerville, Abidjan, Ivory Coast), professionally known as Didi B is an Ivorian rapper, singer and composer.
Biography
Origins
His father, Abou Bassa Bomou,[1] is a pianist, actor and arranger, while his mother, Feu Péhoula Zéréhoué, is a choreographer and Pehoula Zerehoue dancer.[2]
Childhood and education
Didi B was born in April 3, 1992 in the village of Ki-Yi in Abdijan.[2]
At the age of three, he made his stage debut in Meiway's Death Society music video, which invited him to participate in two other music videos, Ahissan and Le Dernier Siècle.
Career
Movie theatre
At the age of ten, Didi B was asked by the artist Paul Madys to play the lead actor in his music video "ARRETEZ," which marked his entry in the world of cinema. He subsequently obtained a role in a television series produced by UNICEF.[3]
In 2006, at the age of thirteen, he landed a the lead role in the film "Les Frères Kadogo" by a Rwandan director Joseph Muganga, assisted by Henri Duparc. The film won the Best Fiction Award, the Grand Prix TV-Video at FESPACO as well as the Best Medium-Length Film Award in the Africa Digital section of Vues d'Afrique in 2007.[4] Thank to this success, he met Laurent Gbagbo.[5]
Music
In 2009, Didi B formed the rap group Kiff No Beat with his friend and he was the first to sign under the Universal Music Group Africa label.[6]
In 2013, Didi B began a solo career with the release of the album Mojo Trone Vol.1.[7]
In 2021, Didi B signed several partnership contracts with brands such as Fresh Pressea, Johnie Walker and Budweiser. He is also signed to the Ivorian label Coast to Coast and distributed by 92i.[8][9] He is one of the first artist signed to 92i label. That same year, he released hit singles such as YPLD, DIYILEM, Big Boss, IPRC, Gam de Djai and on a Pris Balle. Alongside his solo career, Didi B launched Africa Mindset.[10]
In 2022, Didi B announced the release of his first solo album Mojotrône II: History,[11] co-produced by Coast to Coast and 92i.[12] This album has accumulated more than 50 million streams and more than 10,000 CDs sold, certified by BURIDA, Dream Makers and the Association of Music Producers. On the occasion of the release of this album, Didi B performed two concerts in the space of four months at the Palais de la Culture[13] on May 27 and August 27, 2022, followed by concerts in the sub-region, including one in Guinea at the 30,000-seat Stage General Lansana Conte. And, another solo live concert in Paris at The Elysee Montmartre on February 4, 2023.[14]
Didi B won several awards in 2022, notably at PRIMUD where he won the title of Best French-speaking Artist.[15] He crowned his success at AFRIMA in Dakar where he won the Song of the Year Award.[10]
His song En Haut, released on August 20, 2022, is the result of a collaboration between the artists Tamsir and Jr La Mélo. In 2023, the sign En Haut holds the record for its most listened to title on the music streaming platform "Boomplay," reaching a total of 16 million streams.[16]
In July 2023, he received a gold disc for Mojotrône II: History from the hands of the Minister of Culture and Francophonie, Françoise Remarck and that of Commerce, Souleymane Diarrassouba.[12]
Collaboration
Since May 26, 2021, Didi B has joined 92i Africa, the african branch of french rapper Booba's label founded in 2021.[17]
