Diehl Metering GmbH is a German company specializing in the design and manufacture of metering solutions (including water meters and thermal energy meters) and remote meter reading systems (fixed and mobile networks). History
Diehl Metering traces its origins to metering and measurement companies founded in Central Europe in the 19th century. Neptun was founded in 1862 in Breslau (now Wrocław).
In 1912, Neptun was renamed Hydrometer. In 1951, the company’s headquarters were moved to Ansbach (Bavaria).
From the 1990s onward, the group expanded through integrations, including Sappel (France) in 1998. During the same period, remote meter reading solutions were developed and industrialized.
In 2010, Diehl Metering became a division of the German industrial group Diehl. The Diehl Metering brand was subsequently rolled out internationally from the mid-2010s.

Presence in France
In France, Diehl Metering is based in Saint-Louis (Haut-Rhin). The company designs and manufactures metering equipment (water, thermal energy) and develops solutions combining connectivity (fixed and mobile networks), collection and processing of metering data, as well as data operations software (including performance monitoring and support for anomaly detection, e.g., leaks).[3] · [4].
- 1906 – Foundation of Paris-Ignicole by Salomon Ostrowsky in Paris. The company initially manufactured petrol-vapour lighting systems for individuals and railways.
- 1932 – Start of water meter production under the “Aquametro” brand in Boulogne-Billancourt.
- 1936 – Paris-Ignicole becomes Sappel (Société d’APPlications mécaniques et ÉLectriques).
- 1974 – Sappel transfers its registered office from Boulogne (40 rue de l’Est) to 67 rue du Rhône in Saint-Louis.
- 1982 – Sappel joins the Compagnie Générale des Eaux group.
