Diffraction Limited was founded in 1993 by Douglas George. Diffraction Limited develops and manufactures a wide range of scientific imaging systems and tools, including low-light imaging cameras, filter wheels, adaptive optics systems, control and processing software, and observatory control and protection systems. The company's Cyanogen Imaging® software products include MaxIm DL for astronomical image acquisition and processing, as well as Quick Fringe for optical testing.
Mr. George is a past president of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada[1]
In 2014, Diffraction Limited acquired the assets of Santa Barbara Instrument Group (SBIG), which has manufactured Charge-coupled_device (CCD) imaging systems since 1989. All engineering and manufacturing is now done at the company’s custom-built facility in Ottawa, Ontario.
Diffraction Limited continues to manufacture and enhance SBIG® STXL cameras that were first introduced in 2012[2].
Diffraction Limited introduced its Aluma® series of cameras in 2017 and was recognized by Sky & Telescope Magazine.[3]
The Aluma series of cameras were expanded to include back-illuminated sensors from Teledyne_e2v in 2018.
Astronomers, physicists, opticians, life scientists, and instrument manufacturers use Diffraction Limited equipment with telescopes, spectrographs, optical systems, microscopes, genetic testing equipment, and industrial monitoring and test equipment.
The Dragonfly_Telephoto_Array uses 48 Diffraction Limited cameras to search for ultra-low luminosity Dark_galaxy objects.
