Dilgam Heydar oghlu Nagiyev (24 June 1975 – 17 March 1995) was an Azerbaijani serviceman, participant in the First Nagorno-Karabakh War, and a recipient of the title of National Hero of Azerbaijan. He was killed during the March events (1995).
Early life
Dilgam Nagiyev was born on 24 June 1975 in Mingachevir, Azerbaijan SSR, Soviet Union. In 1990, after completing the eighth grade at Secondary School No. 9 in Mingachevir, he continued his education at Vocational Technical School No. 69.
On 7 August 1993, Nagiyev was conscripted into the Azerbaijani Armed Forces.
Military service
After completing military training at a military unit in Baku, Nagiyev was sent to the Fuzuli District front during the First Nagorno-Karabakh War.
He participated in combat operations in the villages of Ahmadbeyli, Mahmudlu, Bala Bahmanli and Kurdmahmudlu in Fuzuli District. According to sources, he distinguished himself during the fighting and was credited with destroying a number of enemy personnel. His commanders recognized his performance and promoted him to the rank of sergeant.
In 1994, during an attempted coup in Ganja, Nagiyev participated in the operation to neutralize the armed group.
March events
During the March events of 1995, Nagiyev again participated in an operation to neutralize an armed group. He was killed during the operation on 17 March 1995. Nagiyev was buried at the Martyrs' Alley in Mingachevir.
National Hero of Azerbaijan
By Decree No. 307 of the President of Azerbaijan dated 4 April 1995, Dilgam Heydar oghlu Nagiyev was posthumously awarded the title of National Hero of Azerbaijan.
A secondary school in Mingachevir bears his name, and a bust of Nagiyev has been erected there.
