Dimagi Naxal

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Dimagi Naxal (Script error: The function "langx" does not exist., meaning "mental" or "ideological Naxal") is a political expression used by Indian prime minister Narendra Modi in his Independence Day address on 15 August 2026.

Modi used the term to describe people he alleged retained a Maoist mindset despite the decline of armed Naxalism, and called for their identification and isolation.[1][2][3] The expression sparked political controversy, with opposition leaders arguing that such terminology could stigmatise government critics and suppress dissent.[4][5][6] Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju subsequently said the expression referred to people supporting Maoism or separatism and rejecting the Constitution, rather than opposition leaders merely as such.[7][8][9] The debate continued after Modi reused the expression at Shri Ram College of Commerce in September 2026, describing his earlier remark as a "homeopathic pill" that had prompted his critics to reveal themselves.[10][11]

Rijiju argued that the expression distinguished support for Maoist violence and separatism from ordinary political disagreement, saying that criticism of the government alone did not make someone a "dimagi Naxal".[12]
