Dr Dipender Gill is a British clinician-scientist and entrepreneur whose work focuses on human genetics, drug discovery and translational medicine. He is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Sequoia Genetics Ltd., a company focused on using human genetic data to support drug discovery and development.
His research focuses on genetic epidemiology, Mendelian randomisation and the use of human genetic evidence in therapeutic development.
Early life and education
Gill was born on 8 August 1987. He attended Hampton School before studying at The Queen's College, University of Oxford, where he obtained a BA in Medical Sciences in 2008 and a BMBCh with Distinction in 2011.
He became a Member of the Royal College of Physicians in 2014 and was awarded an MA in Medical Sciences by the University of Oxford in 2018. He completed a PhD in Genetic Epidemiology at Imperial College London in 2020.
In 2022, Gill was entered onto the General Medical Council Specialist Register for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, and General Internal Medicine.
Career
Gill began his medical career as an Academic Foundation Doctor in the North West Thames Deanery from 2011 to 2013. He later undertook an Academic Clinical Fellowship in Clinical Pharmacology at Imperial College London from 2013 to 2017.
From 2017 to 2020, he was a Wellcome Trust Research Fellow at Imperial College London. He later held academic appointments as a Clinical Lecturer at St George's, University of London, and as an Advanced Clinical Research Fellow at Imperial College London.
Between 2020 and 2023, Gill worked at Novo Nordisk as a Genetics Specialist and Principal Portfolio Scientist, where he contributed to the integration of human genetic evidence across therapeutic programmes.
Sequoia Genetics
In April 2024, Gill founded Sequoia Genetics Ltd., where he serves as Founder and Chief Executive Officer. The company focuses on using human genetic data to generate translational insights for drug discovery and development.
Editorial and advisory roles
Gill has held editorial and advisory roles, including Associate Editor of EHJ Open, Editorial Advisor for BMC Medicine, Editorial Board of BMJ Medicine and Editorial Advisor for Neurology.
He has also served as Strategic Advisor to Apollo Therapeutics and as a member of the Cardiovascular Scientific Advisory Board of Tourmaline Bio.
Research
Gill has authored more than 300 research publications in human genetics, Mendelian randomisation, cardiovascular disease, metabolic disease and drug development.
