Dirk Arthur
Dirk Arthur is an American magician. He was the star of the Las Vegas show Xtreme Magic, at the Tropicana Resort & Casino. The show featured leopards, panthers, Bengal tigers, white tigers, snow tigers, and additional felines. [1] Large objects such as a diesel locomotive and helicopter were made to magically appear during the show. [2] The helicopter illusion was featured on the T.V. special World's Greatest Magic II. He has performed for more than 20 years to sold out crowds at Vegas hotels, such as Harrahs and Cabaret. [3] [4] Crowds are drawn to Dirk Arthur by his big and small cats. He commonly makes celebrity appearances, for example with white tiger Crystal at the world famous Gold & Silver Pawn Shop in Las Vegas with Chumlee of Pawn Stars. [5] Dirk Arthur's stage performance has been endorsed by numerous celebrities, for example Jay Leno and Piers Morgan.[6] Dirk Arthur appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman where he exhibited doves, a duck named Dan Quayle, and two white tigers. [7] Dirk Arthur's big cat training techniques were the focus of an episode of Animal Planet. [8] His work with white tigers and other big cats is important to conservation. He retires all of his animals to sanctuaries to promote conservation and public education. [9] Although Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF) campaigned against him in 2016 by asking him to retire his exotic animals to sanctuaries following the suspension of his show at Tropicana in Las Vegas, Nevada, [10] Dirk Arthur has repeatedly said that when his animals, such as his white tiger, Saber, do not receive adequate stimulation through training and magic, they are allowed to retire. [11] [12] His newsworthy status, described by BBC as the "world famous American magician," [13] has caused animal rights groups to make an example of him. [14] Following Siegfried and Roy and the Secret Garden, and associated acts, such as Darren Romeo and Rick Thomas, Dirk Arthur appeared in "Dirk Arthur Wild Illusions" at the Riviera (hotel and casino) in 2014.[15] A portion of all ticket sales were used to preserve animals in the wild and in sanctuaries.[16] The L.A. Times reported that the magician known for working with ligers and tigers currently performs at Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino with birds, for example a duck, Afflack. [17] [18]
