Dirk Staudinger (born January 8, 1973) is a German consultant in the areas of brands, trends & communication, as well as an art dealer and former member of the German national field hockey team and player in the German hockey Bundesliga.

Life[edit]

Dirk Staudinger was born in Hamburg. He has two sons. His companies Cc Consultancy and Circle Culture are located in Berlin and Hamburg, and have also been active in Los Angeles since 2015.

Sporting Career[edit]

Between 1979 and 1998, Staudinger was an active player at the Grossflottbeker THGC and Harvestehuder THC hockey clubs. As a competitor in the German hockey Bundesliga[1] and a member of the German national team[2][3][4][5][6] he won several German Masters titles and took part in the following championships:

  • 1987/1988 U14 Junior European Championships
  • 1989/1990 U16 Junior European Championships
  • 1992 Military Cup Championships[7]
  • 1994 BMW Trophy
  • 1995 EuroHockey Cup Winners Cup
  • 1994/1996 German Champion Indoor
  • 1996 German Champion Field
  • 1997/1998 European Cup Winner of National Champions Indoor
  • 1997 German Cup Champion[8]

Following his sporting career, he was also engaged as a hockey trainer.

Professional Career[edit]

Dirk Staudinger studied sports management at the IST Institute in Düsseldorf and business at the University of Hamburg. During his studies, he worked as a youth cultural advisor and trend scout for British advertising agency Bartle Bogle Hegarty, German communications agency Trendbüro, international marketing agency Kantar Added Value (formerly The Added Value Company) and British semiotician Greg Rowland.

From 1998 to 1999, he was an independent producer and moderator for MTV Deutschland.[9] During this time he produced several music videos with cameraman Henrik Peschel including K2 from Absolute Beginner feat. Samy Deluxe, Das Bo, Dendemann, Ferris Mc, Eins Zwo[10]. In 1999, Dirk Staudinger was involved at Germany’s first online radio station, Cyberradio, where he produced and moderated the Water lifestyle show and the On Earth music program. He was engaged as an author for the Wörterbuch der Szenesprachen (Dictionary of Urban Slang)[11], released in 2000 by the Duden publishing house.

In 2001, he founded the creative and strategic brand and communications consultancy Cc together with Johann Haehling von Lanzenauer and Oliver Litten. Clients include sporting goods manufacturer NikeBeiersdorf AG, fashion brands H&MUniqlo and Chanel, drinks and media firm Red Bull, furnishings brand Ikea, tech companies Apple and Microsoft, lifestyle brand Converse, lifescience company Bayer along with automotive brand Mini as well as the Unilever group, and cultural institutions such as Art Basel Miami Beach, the Helmut Newton Foundation and the Berlinische Galerie – Museum of Modern Art. Staudinger is also active as a speaker on the subject of Marketing and Innovation in Communication at conferences and seminars.[12]

Also in 2001 and together with Johann Haehling von Lanzenauer, he founded the Circle Culture art and culture platform in Berlin, which is devoted to the promotion and trade of urban art. Since 2011, Circle Culture has been dedicated to a wider spectrum of international fine arts and contemporary culture. Staudinger also advanced the company from 2010 onwards with pop-up exhibitions in Hamburg, where the second branch was established in 2012.[13] Among the artists exhibited by Circle Culture are Stefan Strumbel, Katrin Fridriks, XOOOOX, Shepard FaireyJRArno RinkRoss BlecknerJonathan YeoRaymond Pettibon and Corita Kent.

Staudinger is also a founding member of The Conversation, a nomadic cultural project for progressive concepts of various creative disciplines, together with his Circle Culture partner Haehling von Lanzenauer and US artist, curator and filmmaker Aaron Rose from Los Angeles. Arising from this was the iconic La Rosa Social Club project – a touring art bar and considered a social sculpture – which to date has appeared in Los Angeles, Berlin and Sydney.[14]

Between 1995 and 2002 he was engaged in locations including Los Angeles, New York, London, Paris, Madrid and Milan as a protagonist for music videos, fashion productions, short films as well as advertisements for fashion labels[15] and industrial clients such as Calvin KleinLevi'sFerrero, Esso and media including Fit for Fun, Stern, and ID Magazine. Moreover, in 1995, he was also a catwalk model for US fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger.
