Disa Vilhelmina Håstad (born 27 April 1940) is a Swedish journalist and author, known for her reporting on Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union.
Early life and education
Håstad is the daughter of the political scientist Elis Håstad. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Uppsala University in 1962 and later studied Slavic languages at Stockholm University between 1966 and 1967.[1]
Career
Håstad began her career in journalism at the newspaper Svenska Dagbladet, where she worked from 1964 to 1966. In 1968, she joined the editorial staff of Dagens Nyheter, Sweden's largest daily newspaper.[2] She served as a correspondent for the paper from 1974 to 1978 and was appointed as the newspaper's Eastern Europe correspondent in 1984, a role she held during a period of significant political transformation in the region.[3]
Her non-fiction writing focuses primarily on Soviet and post-Soviet society, cultural change, and human rights.[2]

Personal life
Håstad is the mother of the diplomat Elsa Håstad. Through her daughter, she is the grandmother of the artist Jonatan Leandoer Håstad, known by the stage name Yung Lean.[5]
