Background

Mori Calliope released her third studio album Phantomime on 16 August 2024 to moderate commercial success, becoming her highest charting studio album on both the Oricon and Billboard charts. Following the album's release, she would release the single "Flash Bang" with Rip Slyme member Pes on 31 October, followed by the Hololive English collaboration "Odyssey" on 27 December. Mori would subsequently promote Phantomime with Grimoire, a concert held at the Hollywood Palladium on 26 February 2025; she would perform "Flash Bang" at the concert.[3] The day following the concert, she would release the single "Seeing Stars", a collaboration with rapper Lotus Juice and producer Shoji Meguro; Lotus Juice and Meguro are both known for their work on the Persona video game series, which Mori is a noted fan of. During a further online concert on 4 April to celebrate her birthday, she would perform and immediately release the Tooboe collaboration "Sepia" alongside a music video animated by Mori herself.[4]

On 14 April 2025, it was confirmed that Mori would be performing the track "Die for You" as an insert song for the Japanese-Korean drama The Monster Within; the song would be officially released on 17 May.[5] Following the song's release, she would collaborate with fellow Hololive members Tokoyami Towa and Nerissa Ravencroft on the respective tracks "Queen of the Night" as part of the company's "Chemythtry Mythmash" campaign and "Over//Ride" as the theme song for the gacha game Chaos Zero Nightmare.[6][7] On 13 September, the fifth anniversary of her debut, Mori would release the track "Orpheus", serving as the lead single for Disasterpiece.[8] On 6 October, it was confirmed that Mori would be performing the track "Let's Just Crash" as the opening theme song for the second cour of the anime Gachiakuta; Mori is notably close friends with the anime's creator Kei Urana, who had previously worked with her for the cover of her 2023 EP Jigoku 6.[9] "Let's Just Crash" would officially release on 2 November as the second single for Disasterpiece, with Mori subsequently confirmed to further perform the track "Rivals and Equals" for as an insert theme for Gachiakuta.[10]

On 14 November 2025, it was confirmed that Mori would be performing the 2025 theme song for the reality show The Golden Combi alongside a then-unrevealed vocalist. Three days later, following various hints from Mori's management, the vocalist was revealed to be Japanese singer Kento Nakajima, alongside the song's title "Gold Unbalance" and the release date of 21 November. On 20 November, the day before "Gold Unbalance"'s release, Mori would officially announce Disasterpiece on a livestream, alongside its release date and the cover arts for its standard and limited editions.[11] On 28 November, during a Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot stream, she would confirm that "Rivals and Equals" would be released alongside Disasterpiece as its fourth single.[12]
