Disha Eye Hospitals is a chain of eye care hospitals located in various districts across West Bengal. The hospital’s first building was established in 1997 and was a joint initiative of Dr Debasish Bhattacharya[1], who is the major shareholder; Dr Tushar Kanti Hazra[2], and Dr Samar Kumar Basak, having sweat equity. The three doctors were friends and are from N.R.S Medical College.

Establishment

Disha Eye Hospital, a private limited companionship of three doctors (all from the NRS Medical College). Disha was established on 1 May 1997 with Dr. Debasish Bhattacharya[3] as the major shareholder and Dr. Tushar Kanti Hazra and Dr. Samar Kumar Basak having sweat equities.

History

1997

The first building of Disha was inaugurated on 12 December 1997[4]. It was a 20,000 sq. ft. two-storied building with three operation theatres. The companionship of these three doctor friends was an instant success. Within one year they started operating on more than 5,000 patients and seeing more than 50,000 patients. In the same year, Dr. Tushar Sinha joined Disha and developed the Retina Department.[5]

2000-2002

During these years Disha developed further and became a 4-storied building with 5 operation theatres.

2003

This year Disha inaugurated the new OPD building, which is another 23,000 sq. ft. of patient care area.

2006

This year (September) Disha expanded and started its second hospital in Sheoraphuly, Hooghly.

Disha Eye Hospital has branches at various locations in West Bengal[6][7]. Some of these locations are: Barrackpore[8][9][10][11], Ghoshpara Road; Berhampore, Laldighi Plaza; Burdwan; Mourigram, Vill.+P.O. Duila. P.S. Sankrail Near Mourigram Rail; Gariahat, Rash Behari Avenue; Barasat, Krishnanagar Road NH – 34; Behala[12], Behala Chowrasta; Teghoria VIP Road, Raghunathpur North Opp. Teghoria Taxi Stand; Sinthi, B.T. Road; Durgapur[13], Palasdiha Durgapur[14]; Sheoraphully[15][16], G.T. Road.

Services

Disha provides various eye care services[17] such as: Cataract, Corneal Diseases[18], Diabetic Retinopathy, Glaucoma, LASIK & Refractive Surgery, Paediatric & Squint, Uveitis.

Eye Bank

Disha also provides eye bank services[19], where interested people can contact to donate their eyes.
