Disney Channel Middle East (Arabic: قناة ديزني‎) is an edition of the The Walt Disney Company-owned Disney Channel broadcasting to the Middle East, North Africa as well as Pakistan and Maldives with exceptions of Iran, Iraq, Libya, Syria, and Tunisia.[1] It is advertising-free and funded by subscription fees.

History[edit]

Disney Channel Middle East was launched on April 2, 1997 and was back then exclusively available on the Orbit Network. In Fall 2001, it became available on Showtime Arabia.

Disney Channel Middle East was only available in the English when launched. On April 1, 1998, the Orbit Network launched the Arabic service on Disney Channel. Then, on April 16, 2007, the Orbit Network launched the Swedish service on Disney Channel. Now, Disney Channel is an encrypted channel available on Orbit Showtime in English, Arabic, and Swedish.

Disney channel Middle East aired all Disney Channel shows but most of them are out of the air.

Popularity[edit]

Disney Channel made a huge success in the Middle East, especially in Qatar, Egypt, U.A.E and Lebanon where more than 90% of kids and more than 40% from teenagers watch Disney Channel .

2011[edit]

In February, Shake It Up and Avalon High premieres. In April, Disney made a competition to win special prizes for spring. In May, the channel had a new look and adopted the US logo. In October, So Random and My Babysitter's a Vampire premiered as new series. In December, Christmas was called Galaxy Of Stars. The same month, A.N.T. Farm and Jessie Premiered. Good Luck Charlie:The Road Trip Movie also premiered then.

2012[edit]

In this year until now, Shake it Up Season 2 premiered, as well as Jessie (after a peak in the end of 2011), plus new episodes of ANT Farm, Wizards of Waverly place (the season finale), Good Luck Charlie, Austin and Ally, So Random, Phineas and Ferb, Gravity Falls, and Fish Hooks. Movies that have premiered are Geek Charming, Radio Rebel, Frenemies and The Suite Life Movie. Special events that have premieres in 2012 are The 4 Part Wizards Saga Wizards in APT 13B, The 2 Part Good Luck Charlie Sun Show, The 2 Part Wizards Season Finale, Disney Princesses, and Charlie Shakes It Up. New series added that year included Gravity Falls and Let It Shine.

Logos[edit]

Disney Channel Middle East uses the Disney Channel UK's 1997 logo starting from 1997. In December 1999, Disney Channel Middle East's identity split into two:

  • English versions of Disney Channel Middle East received Disney Channel UK's Circles logo and idents(created by GÉDÉON).
  • Arab-language versions of Disney Channel Middle East received a modified version of Disney Channel UK's logo to feature the Arabic name of channel, but it has different idents (created by Razorfish).

In June 2003, Disney Channel Middle East adopted Disney Channel US' 2003 logo. In May 1, 2011, Disney Channel Middle East used Disney Channel US' smartphone app logo.

Disney Channel Games[edit]

Debuting in 2006, the Disney Channel Games includes stars from Disney Channel Original Series and Movies, and were telecast from the Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. After the kick-off Games in 2006, the 2007 and 2008 Games included Disney Channel stars from across the world, making room for the addition of a Yellow Team (Added to Blue, Red and Green) during the 2007 event. In 2008, the games featured four teams: the Cyclones, the Comets, the Lightning and the Inferno. 2008 was the last DC Games to date; the Disney Channel Games were not held in 2009 nor in 2010. The Disney channel games 2007 was aired in the Fall of 2007. And the 2008 games were aired on August 19, 2008.

Happy Easter block[edit]

In April 2009, Disney Channel ME showed movies every day during Easter, including the premiere of Sleeping Beauty; added Wizards of Waverly Place season 2 episodes to the Saturday morning lineup; and changed its look, temporarily, to a spring and Easter theme.

Demi & Selena Block[edit]

One day before the premiere of the movie Princess Protection Program the Demi & Selena block aired from 1 p.m. GMT (4 p.m. KSA) until 6 p.m. GMT (9 p.m. KSA). In this block all programming at that time that aired included Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez. Two Hannah Montana episodes aired that had Selena as a guest-star, A The Suite Life of Zack & Cody episode that Selena guest starred in, As the Bell Rings (United States) episodes that Demi starred in, Camp Rock that Demi also starred in, the premiere of the second show of Studio DC: Almost Live that both Demi and Selena starred in, and a couple of Wizards of Waverly Place episodes that Selena starred in. The channel also changed its look temporarily to match the theme colors of the movie.

Wiz-tober Block[edit]

Disney Channel ME, and throughout October, 2009, premiered Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie, showed new episodes of Wizards of Waverly Place, and showed special airings of Twitches and Twitches Too. On October 31, 2009, Disney Channel ME aired Halloween episodes of all shows. The channel also changed its look, temporarily, to a magical logo.

Wizards Vs. Vampires Block[edit]

Starting October 26, 2009 till October 29, 2009 Disney Channel ME Will air the four episodes of Wizards Vs. Vampires, in Wizards of Waverly Place.

Joyful December Block[edit]

Disney Channel ME, and throughout December 2009, premiered Wizards on Deck with Hannah Montana and A Modern Twain Story: The Prince and the Pauper, and run "back-to-back" episodes of selected shows. Also, Disney Channel ME traditionally aired Mickey's Twice upon a Christmas and The Muppet Christmas Carol on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. The channel aired "Christmas specials and episodes" of its shows. The channel also changed its look, temporarily, to a Christmas, Winter and North Pole look.

Camp Rock block[edit]

On 18 October 2010, Disney ME premiered Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam, and premiered the new shows: JONAS L.A., two new episodes, and Hannah Montana Forever (Hannah Montana's final season, season4), 2 new episodes. And Disney Channel ME aired a new episode of Sonny with a chance.

October-Takeover block[edit]

Disney Channel ME, on Halloween 2010, aired a special Halloween episode of the Disney channel original series Wizards of Waverly Place,and a new Hannah Montana Forever and JONAS L.A. episodes. And Disney Channel ME aired the Original Movie Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue. The Sunday, the channel aired the original movie Halloweentown at 19:10.

Brothers-And-Sisters-Block[edit]

On November 27, 2010, Disney Channel Middle East aired a special block filled with special episodes from the Disney channel original seriesWizards of Waverly place,Hannah Montana,Jonas, Jonas L.A., The Suite Life on Deck, Phineas and Ferb and others. It was also the premiere of Disney Channel Original Movie Den Brother at 8:50.

Camp rock week-end Block[edit]

On December 11, 2010, Disney Channel Middle East aired brand new episodes of Jonas L.A. and others shows. It aired also the Disney Channel original movie Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam but, with the unseen scenes.

Christmas Block[edit]

On Christmas 2010, Disney Channel ME aired the premiere of the Disney channel original movie Harriet the Spy: Blog Wars starring Wizards of Waverly place actor Jennifer Stone as Harper Finkle and 16 Wishes starring Debby Ryan.Disney Channel Me will also air the premiere of Phineas and Ferb: Christmas Vacation, and will premiere the first episode of Shake it Up an upcoming dance show starring Bella Thorne and Zendaya.Disney channel ME premiered the episode So Random holiday special from Sonny with a Chance.

Shake it Up and Fish Hooks Weekend[edit]

On February 27, 2011, Disney Channel ME aired many new episodes of both shows.

Candace Day[edit]

On March 5, 2011, Disney Channel ME aired episodes of Phineas and Ferb that focus on Candace.

Fashion Week[edit]

From March 7 to March 13, 2011, Disney Channel Middle East premieres the most fashionable episodes of Disney channel shows.

Hannah-Oke[edit]

Whole of August,2011 Disney Channel airs all Hannah Montana Episodes And Music Videos With Lyrics of the Song Down... And While Disney Airing The Music Videos And The Episodes Disney Me uses its Logo(Disney Channel US' smartphone app logo) But A colored Vesion Of It.

20,21 of August Disney ME Will Air Episodes From Shows With Talented Moments, And May Be Airing Disney Channel Friends For Change Games, And Will Air New Episodes Of Shake It Up.

Christmas and new year 2011[edit]

in November and December 2011 Disney airs disney channel games, new episodes of my babysitter's a vampire, wizards of waverly place, so random, good luck charlie (season 2), shake it up and other shows... And as part of Christmas, Disney has aired good luck charlie the roadtrip movie, a suite life on deck holiday episodes, and lots of movies which fit with Christmas and families. Also as part of the new year, Disney channel aired shake it up new years also premiered the new show Jessie.
