Edgar Vicent Mwaipeta (born February 17, 1993), popularly known by his stage name Dizasta Vina, is a Tanzanian rapper of Nyakyusa heritage, he was born in Iringa, Iringa region.[1]
Early life and education[edit]
Rapper Dizasta Vina was born Edgar Vicent Mwaipeta in Iringa Tanzania to Nyakyusa parents from Mbeya Region.[2]
Dizasta Vina started his primary education at Kimanga Primary School in Ilala, Dar es Salaam, followed by ordinary level secondary education at Southern Highlands Secondary School and advanced level secondary education at Mbeya High School in Mbeya. From 2013 to 2015, he studied for bachelor's degree in accounting and finance at Institute of Finance Management (IFM).
Dizasta Vina's musical inclination was sparked within his family, particularly inspired by his sisters' involvement in the church choir. His passion for rap music ignited, leading him to start writing rhymes after being influenced by Professor Jay's album "Machozi Jasho na Damu."
Career[edit]
Dizasta Vina began his music career by competing in various rap battles including SM Straight Music Freestyle Battle in 2010. In 2012, he joined Tamaduni Muzik through a talent search competition and released his debut single "Harder".[3][4]
In February 2017, he released his first mixtape, "The Wonderboy Mixtape". In 2018, he released his debut full-length studio album "Jesusta". On 14 February 2018, he got an invitation to Planet Bongo Dakika 10 za Maangamizi, a ten minutes freestyle show on East Africa Radio. It was reported that his episode was one of the best in the series.
His second studio album " The Verteller" was released in December 2020.[5] In this album, he was responsible for the production of five tracks, it also featured productions from Ringle Beatz, Cjmoker, and Jcob. The album has reached over 3+ million Boomplay streams and has racked up numerous airplay on Tanzanian popular radio stations.[6]
