DJ Hypnotize AKA HZA (born Omar Scanu February 18, 1982) is an American Producer, Turntablist, Entrepreneur, Model, Actor and innovator of the "Hyp" and "Iron Hyp" scratch styles of music.
Career
HZA attended Qbert Skratch University and has won several of their sponsored contests.
Dj Hypnotize has been a part of the DJ and Hip Hop music scene since 1998. He has contributed to the style of music called scratching. “Scratching" is a DJ and turntablist technique used to produce distinctive sounds by moving a vinyl record back and forth on a turntable while optionally manipulating the cross fader on a DJ mixer." Scratching He invented the “Hyp” and “Iron Hyp” scratch styles in 1998 and 1999.[citation needed] He worked with the Wu-Tang Clan, Wu-Tang Clan a multi-platinum New York based hip hop group and the Needlebreakers DJs. Others Turntable FX Kru, a group that he formed, were popular for a short while but eventually broke up citing creative differences. DJ Hypnotize has also worked with DJ Qbert, DJ Flare Lilb, the Based God, D-Styles, Soulja Boy and as a DJ for Papa Rue.[3]
After working with various rappers and DJs, and performing in clubs and venues all over the world, DJ Hypnotize AKA HZA returned home to Houston, Texas. He worked at a local radio station, KTRU, located on the campus of Rice University. He also guest hosted a show called The Vinyl Frontier at the University, which was broadcast until the early 2000s. In 2007, he taught a course called The Art of Turntablism at Media Tech Institute in Houston, Texas.[4]
During 2008, 2009, and 2010, HZA devoted his time to honing his skills, DJing at venues all around Houston, and working in his studio where he invented the “Hyp” and “IronHyp” styles of scratching. HZA was also entered into a contract with Brick Squad Mafia Management as a DJ and producer from 2012-2014.1017 Brick Squad Records In 2014, he invented the Hail, Hypnotizer, and Hypnosis scratches,[citation needed] thereby raising the bar for turntablists globally. His album, "ironhypstyle" is currently being produced with a release date of 2015.
