Maclean Mwangi (born 11th September 1987), known professionally as Dj Lean is a Kenyan Dj, record producer, Radio host, radio producer, entrepreneur and brand and advertising strategist.
Musical beginning
He first gained major attention for his most listened shows on Hero radio where he started off as a producer and Dj and rose to host his own show The Thrill weekdays every evening from 7-10pm. He later went on to dominate the entertainment scene as a club Dj playing in almost all the major venues in Nakuru town. As a radio host he hosted many local and international artists such as Sauti Sol, King Kaka, Dr. Hilder (from Tanzania) Jose Chameleon (from Uganda) and Alaine (from Jamaica).
Brand Strategy
As a brand strategist, he worked with his former boss and friend Sam West to establish his brand as a comedian. His work enabled his friend get national recognition and when he met with his fiancée Vivian Kenya, Dj Lean played a major role in revamping her brand. He helped her gain major online recognition, thrusting him into the digital media and internet marketing field. It is then that he founded Evolve Africa Limited.
The company deals with brand management, digital media strategy and audio / video production. It is with his company that he started working with major corporates and notable public figures including former Nakuru governor Kinuthia Mbugua, Sportpesa, Dafabet Kenya, British council, Octopizzo, and Nakuru rugby club. As a digital strategist he has worked with CityBet Kenya as digital marketing and brand development lead.
E Radio
He later quit his position as radio manager at Hero FM to start his own online radio Tha E Radio. The radio had major breakthrough after it signed contracts with international distributors where he syndicates shows including A State Of Trance by Armin Vaan Buuren, UMF radio, Protocol Radio by Nicky Romero, Spinnin’ Sessions by Spinnin’ Records, In The Mood by Nicole Moudaber, Aoki's House by Steve Aoki and Lost Frequencies.
