Dmitry Dain
Dmitry Dain (born December 31, 1981) is a Russian-born American entrepreneur and programmer, best known as the co‑founder of Virgil Security.[1]
Biography
Dmitry was born in the Soviet Union, and moved to the United States with his family at a young age. He attended George Mason University, where he studied computer science, but dropped out to pursue his career ambitions. During his high school and college years Dmitry worked for World Data Network (one of the first commercial ISPs in Northern Virginia) and later at Lucent Technologies developing Wi-Fi related products.[2]
Career
In 2004, Dmitry joined a small start-up, Shared Spectrum Company (SSC), which won a large $20 million program from DARPA. He held the role of Technical Approach Lead for DARPA XG where he developed software-defined radios and radio systems, with AI implementation. This project resulted in 7 foundational patents[3] and the creation of the “White Spaces Initiative”, which freed spectrum for LTE networks. He later co-founded two cloud-based hosting focused firms (Kadoo and DivShare).[4] [5] During the US crypto-currency and cryptographic assets legalization period (2012-2013), Dmitry Dain was a subject-matter expert for the US Treasury on the topic of bitcoin and blockchain security. In 2014, Dmitry acted as an adviser to Goldman Sachs for their global macro research study “All About Bitcoin"[6]
Virgil Security
In 2014, Dmitry Dain, together with Michael W. Wellman, co-founded Virgil Security, Inc.(Manassas, Va.) - a cybersecurity company focused on implementing cryptography into the Internet of Things (IoT) and data security[7]. The company is financed by leading venture capital funds including Bloomberg Beta[8], KEC Capital, Blu Venture Investors, Charge Ventures, NextGen Venture Partners, Sparkland Capital and Working Lab Capital[9]
