Dom Smith (Journalist)

Life:

Dom Smith is journalist born in Beverley, East Yorkshire^[1].

He currently edits the online publication Soundsphere magazine^[2] which is based around alternative music and culture.

Dom has previously worked for Metro^[3], The Quietus^[4], Massachusetts Institute of Technology^[5], DIY^[6], WhatCulture^[7] and others.

He is the brother of British racing driver, Guy Smith^[8].

Dom was born with Cerebral Palsy^[9] and walks with the aid of two sticks.

Work:

In 2012, Dom was awarded The National Diversity Award for Entrepreneurial Excellent (Disability Category)^[10], and in the same year was invited to carry the Paralympic torch for York^[11].

In 2013, was named on the Independent on Sunday's Happy List^[12].

For Soundsphere, Dom has interviewed musicians from various genres, including the likes of The 1975^[13], Judas Priest^[14], Rammstein^[15], Napalm Death^[16], Joey Jordison^[17], Filter^[18] and others. He has also worked with sports entertainers including: Chris Jericho^[19], Mick Foley^[20], Ric Flair^[21], Malakai Black^[22] and more.

In recent years, Dom has moved Soundsphere's focus into film and popular culture, interviewing the likes of Alex Proyas (The Crow, Dark City)^[23], Crispin Glover (Charlie's Angels, Willard, Back To The Future)^[24] and others.

Dom hosts a wrestling podcast, Gimme A Hull Yeah^[25], where he does regular livestreams for WWE, AEW and IMPACT events.

Music:

Dom is a drummer^[26], and has toured Europe^[27], and Asia (notably at Taiwan Death Fest^[28]) with grindcore two-piece, The Parasitic Twins^[29]. He is also in North Yorkshire-based industrial/post-punk studio project, Mary and The Ram^[30] and has worked with the likes Howie Weinberg^[31] (Nirvana, 30 Seconds To Mars), Dave Ogilvie^[32] (Nine Inch Nails, Queen, Skinny Puppy), and John Fryer^[33] (Depeche Mode, Stabbing Westward) as part of that project.
