Datuk Dr. Dominic Lau Hoe Chai (Simplified Chinese : 刘华才)  was born on September 18, 1967 in Penang, is currently the National President of political party Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia (Gerakan)[1]. He partake in the political arena, joining Gerakan in 25th April 2005 showing much enthusiasm and passion. Due to his commitment in helping the communities and active participation in political debates and forums, he rose to be the Secretary General of Gerakan National Youth in 2008, in 2013 he was appointed as the Vice President.[2]

Early Life & Education

Datuk Dr. Dominic Lau studied in Phor Tay Primary School, Heng Ee Secondary School and completed his Form 6 in Sek. Abdullah Munshi. He was an active athlete having been a national swimmer and represented Penang from 1982 to 1987. He was the Champion of the cross channel open competition in 1986.

He graduated from Campbell University in 1991 with a degree in Applied Science majoring in Chemistry, further pursuing his MSc in Engineering Business Management from University of Warwick in 1998. He obtained his PhD from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in 2002 in Engineering Business Management.

Political Career

Datuk Dr. Dominic Lau have joined Gerakan in 25th April 2005, proceeding with Secretary General of National Gerakan Youth in 2008. By 2013, he was appointed as Vice President of Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia[2]. Dominic Lau is the current president of Parti Gerakan, he was elected in17th November 2018 at the National Delegates Conference[3], succeeded from Mah Siew Keong.

Datuk Dr. Dominic Lau have contested in GE13 was defeated by Chua Tian Chang, better known as Tian Chua with a majority of 13,284 votes[4]. in GE14, an Independent candidate P.Prabakaran M. Parameswara also the incumbent of Batu Constituency have also defeated Dominic Lau with 24,438 majority[5] . Dominic have set on a heavy task to return to the Parliament in GE15[6].

As the party is out from Barisan Nasional, the party is back on its track and open to joining and/or forming new alliances to oppose what needs to be opposed and to support what needs to be supported by following the party values and guide[7].
