Dominique Grubisa is an Australian lawyer and public speaker

Dominque Grubisa[edit]

Dominique Grubisa is an Australian solicitor:[1], self-published author and public speaker who is active in the areas of overcoming debt, asset protection and wealth creation [2]. She runs the Sydney-based DG Institute[3] and provides media commentary on financial issues [4] [5]. Grubisa is a vocal critic of established financial institutions, particularly banks, the Australian Tax Office and government agencies, and has called for people to seize greater control of their finances.

Early life and career[edit]

Grubisa grew up in Sydney. After obtaining a Bachelor and Master of Laws, she began work as a solicitor in 1994 and was then admitted to the bar and became a practising barrister. Grubisa met her husband Kevin in 1999[6] and the pair married the following year. Together, they set up property investment and development business.

Impact of the GFC[edit]

Grubisa’s wealth creation and public speaking business was sparked by events that occurred during the GFC[7]. A flaw in the investment strategy she and her husband had set up led to the pair going broke and losing the family home. Grubisa has spoken about the despair of finding herself broke and camping in her mother-in-law’s house with her three young children. The family were eventually able to sell some properties, rent out others and pull themselves out of debt.

Speaking business[edit]

After going broke, Grubisa decided to write and self publish a book about her experiences with a view to helping others in debt and getting so money coming in. The idea of a barrister helping struggling families to get out of debt appealed to current affairs programs and Grubisa appeared on A Current Affair and Today Tonight[8]. Grubisa subsequently embarked on national speaking tours to talk about recovering from debt.

DG Institute[edit]

Grubisa’s speaking engagements led to the creation of the DG Institute, a wealth-training organisation[9]. The institute runs physical and virtual courses in areas such as property flipping, property development, asset protection and wealth creation.

Controversy[edit]

Grubisa's Real Estate Rescue program encourages people to buy 'distressed property' where the owner is desperate to sell due to financial or personal hardship. Critics have labelled the approach opportunistic and exploitative. Grubisa counters that if a fair price is paid, buying a distressed property can help the home owner.

Books[edit]

Grubisa has self-published a number of books including[10]

  • How to Cope When the Sky is Falling
  • Property Secrets of the 2%
  • The Property Developer’s Guide to Success
  • A Quick Guide to Asset Protection
