Doni Burdick is a Michigan-based soul singer, active in the late 1960s and early 1970s. His work, particularly the song "Bari Track", has been embraced by the British Northern Soul movement.
"Bari Track" is an instrumental which features a catchy baritone sax riff. It appears to be a remixed version of the backing track of "I Miss My Baby" by Rose Batiste. Batiste's producers mixed the horns, including the baritone sax, much lower than Burdick's did. The release dates of the two singles are not precisely known, but the standard discogs.com database says Batiste's single was released in 1966 by Revilot Records, and Burdick's in 1967 by Sound Impression Records. Burdick's "Bari Track" has been anthologized on dozens of "Northern Soul" and "Detroit Soul" compilation albums.
"Bari Track" was originally the B-side to a song entitled "I Have Faith in You." He released a second single in 1967: "Open The Door To Your Heart" backed with "If You Walk Out Of My Life." Many years later, two 1971 recordings were released as a vinyl 45-rpm single: "Candle (In The Window)" backed with "Whatcha Gonna Do."
Burdick keeps a lower profile today, although as of late 2018, he still actively posts on Facebook.[1]
