DOORS is a first-person roguelite horror escape room video game developed by indie game developers LSPLASH and RediblesQW, based on another Roblox game, Rooms & Spooky's Jump Scare Mansion. The game was originally released on August 10th, 2022, with development dating back to March 13th, 2021.
Gameplay
Players use trial and error[1] to open doors and navigate hotel rooms to proceed through the game and escape.[2][3] Players can obtain objects to aid them throughout the game, while monsters known as "entities" attempt to kill[4] or assist the player in a variety of ways. Players may demonstrate how far they've progressed through the game by displaying one accomplishment and how many times they've perished.
Overview
Doors was released on August 10, 2022.[5] In November 2022, the game hit 1 billion visits.[6] A major update revamping the hotel was released on January 29, 2023.[7] With a redesigned version of the game as a hidden level, the update included an homage to Rooms.[8] On August 26, 2023, modifiers were added, allowing the player to change their game after beating it. "The Mines" had the second floor's release date on August 30, 2024.[9] The game included a new sub-floor dubbed "The Backdoor" as part of its participation in the inaugural edition of The Hunt.[10] An admin panel and stream integration[lower-alpha 1] was added as part of the "Content Update" on December 20, 2024.[11]
Reception
The game's horror component was deemed "too much for YouTubers to handle" by Whitney Meers of PCGamesN.[12] According to Carlos Mestre of TheGamer, the hotel is "Victorian era-esque" and the game is a "spine-chilling adventure."[13]
History
Collaborations
Doors worked with Makeship, a plush toy producer, to create plushes of various objects. The game collaborated with another Roblox game, Tower Heroes, featuring an entity, El Goblino, as a limited-time character.[14]
