Dorothea Mabel de Winton

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Dorothea Mabel de Winton, also known as Dorothea de Winton, was a Welsh geneticist and painter. She had a keen interest in plants and botany, which led her to a position under William Bateson at the John Innes Horticultural Institution, Norwich, United Kingdom.[1] [2] Here she utilised pea plants in the study of genetic inheritance. In 1929, she was given the title of "geneticist". She worked with Anderson Edgar whilst he was on a research fellowship with J.B.S. Haldane. Their work on Primula sinensis was the first in botany to relate pleiotropic gene action to growth. [3][4] She also studied fertility and sterility utilising tobacco plants. [5]
