Dorothea Rosa Herliany

Dorothea Rosa Herliany (Magelang, Central Java, October, 20, 1963) is an Indonesian poet. Herliany studied Indonesian literature at Sanata Dharma University in Yogyakarta. She has written more than 20 volumes of poetry, many of which have been translated into English. She has received numerous awards for her work, including Best Book of Poetry” from the Jakarta Arts Council in 2000; “Best Author”, from the National Language Center in 2003; another from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in 2004; and her book of poetry Santa Rosa (Saint Rose) won the Khatulistiwa Literary Award (2006) as well as the Cempaka Award (2011) for outstanding achievement by a woman. In 2000 she undertook a writing residency in Australia sponsored by La Trobe University and Asialink. In 2009 Herliany residential fellow of the Heinrich Böll Stiftung, and was the recipient of a year’s grant from DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst) to live in Germany during 2013-2014. Along with her writing activities, she managed IndonesiaTera Press for 10 years and currently manages a center for art and cultural activities, “DuniaTera”, both in Magelang, Central Java.[1]
