Career Achievements
Dorothy Tan was the lead lawyer in a significant Court of Appeal case involving the division of matrimonial assets in Singapore. The husband won 75% of S$13.6 million in matrimonial assets, up from just 25% in the original ruling[2]. This is one of the most substantial reversals on the division of matrimonial assets on appeal. The Court of Appeal judges comprising Judge of Appeal Judith Prakash and Justices Belinda Ang and Woo Bih Li released a 60-page decision on 25 February 2020. The apex court had described the case as “complicated”, “challenging”, and “highly unusual”.[3]
Dorothy Tan is also the co-author of *Divorce Done Right: A Guide to Family Law in Singapore*[4]. The book seeks to educate couples and increase awareness about family law in Singapore, approaching the divorce process with an emphasis on minimising acrimony.
Dorothy Tan has also been ranked as a Leading Family & Divorce Lawyer in Doyle's Guide from 2016 - 2023[5]. She was listed as one of the Top 100 Women in Litigation in 2021[6] and 2022, and was named one of Singapore's most influential lawyers aged 40 and under in 2016.[7]
Dorothy Tan has also been a key part of the family law team that has successfully been recognised as a Leading Law Firm in Singapore by The Straits Times in 2021, 2022[8], and 2023[9]
