Doug Bayne
Doug Bayne is known for his contributions to animation, acting, and writing. He gained prominence through his work on ABC television, particularly on Fly TV, Double the Fist, and more recently, The Chaser's War on Everything and triple j tv.
Between 1993 and 1997, Doug resided in Brisbane, Australia, pursuing animation and theatre sports. In 1999, Doug met Craig Anderson and Bryan Moses at the Tropfest film festival. Doug had submitted a short animation, God saves the Titanic, while the others presented their entry, Life in a Datsun.
The three teamed up with Tony Walters and, in 2000, created the television show, Video Dare. The show was only moderately successful, lasting one season primarily due to viewer complaints.
However, in 2002, Doug secured a position producing graphics for Fly TV. When the show needed hosts, Doug suggested his friends. Believing the friends were too mature, producers had them wear fly masks. The group created numerous short sketches for the show. Their work proved successful, earning them funding for a short comedy series.
Unfortunately, before production could begin, Fly TV was cancelled, and the funding for the television series was lost. Undeterred, they used contacts within the ABC to regain funding for the show, Double the Fist, which aired late Friday nights in 2004.
Double the Fist was nominated for and eventually won an AFI award. However, the crew did not experience significant financial gains, and there was a period of inactivity. Due to his lesser-known status, Doug remained unemployed until The Chaser approached him in 2006, asking him to create graphics and titles for their new show, The Chaser's War on Everything. Doug accepted and worked on all 28 episodes.
With the launch of triple j tv, Doug was again employed, creating graphics and sketches similar to those on Fly TV. He also worked on the second series of Double the Fist (2008) and Lawrence Leung's Choose Your Own Adventure.
Doug is now a prominent corporate event performer, hosting events and conferences for leading Australian corporations (including Jim's Mowing, Bradley's Beard Creams, and The Nabiac Decoupage Society).
He is a co-author of the web comic Oglaf, alongside Trudy Cooper.
