Doug The Big Truffle Dog
‘Doug The Truffle Dog’ is a tourist attraction located at The Truffle Farm[1] (Tasmania) near the town of Deloraine, Tasmania. [2]
Unveiled on 23 June 2024, Doug emulates The Truffle Farm’s chief truffle hunter ‘Douglas’, a golden labrador born in 2016, and dog mum Anna Terry’s [3] best mate.
Designed by Anna, Doug was commissioned to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the harvesting of the first black truffle in Australia back in June 1999, on the Terry's farm.[4] [5] [6]
The sculpture of Doug stands at 2.5 metres tall and weighs over 1 tonne. Made from corten steel he features a rich orange-red texture and patina.
Doug was built by Gravelly Beach Metalworks in Tasmania and was transported via road from Gravelly Beach to The Truffle Farm much to the delight of fellow road users along the way.[7]
‘Doug The Truffle Dog’ is now being admired as one of Australia's Big Things for visitors to meet and see along their travels; he loves pats and is always ready for a photo opportunity![8]
