Douwe Dijkstra is a Dutch visual artist and filmmaker.
Biography
Douwe Dijkstra (1984, Netherlands) graduated in 2005 from the ArtEZ in Zwolle.[1] His graduation film, The Washing Machine, won several prizes, including the TENT Academy Award.
In 2006, Dijkstra helped start Festina Lente Collective, a creative Amsterdam-based network/agency he still works with regularly. Together with Festina Lente, he created the music video Beguine in 2008.
Together with Jules van Hulst and Coen Huisman, he founded 33 ⅓ Collective in 2008.[2] They primarily work on theatre productions that rely on video projections, film, and animation to tell the stories. In 2011, the collective created BlueBeard, a video-mapping opera that was shown in Rotterdam, Glasgow, and New York.
In 2013, Douwe worked on his first solo exhibition, called DoorDouwe. This resulted in the presentation of the 3-channel video installation Démontable and the short film of the same name, which premiered at the Rotterdam festival.[3]
With the help of the Go Short Film Festival, he released Supporting Film in 2015.[4] This partnership also led to him creating the trailer for the festival in 2017.[5]
In 2016, during a residency in Brazil, he finished his latest film, Green Screen Gringo.[6]
He lives between Zwolle and Paris and teaches at ArtEZ.
