Dowles Manor
Dowles Manor House (constructed c.1600) was situated on the banks of Dowles Brook in the Wyre Forest, and stood on the grounds of a 12th Century stone building. Constructed out of wattle and daub, with reused timber frames, the house was laid out in typical fashion of an Elizabethan manor, with a hall occupying most of the ground floor and with a kitchen wing on the left.
The house was looked after by a single person from 1942 until 1982, at which point the house caught fire and was remarkably badly damaged. The house was sold to its final owner, who in 1993 was found to have illegally demolished a section of the manor house to rebuild a new house in its place. The owner was fined and the new house demolished, at which point the whole building lost its listed status due to the massive losses to the original house. The whole site was sold at auction in 2017, and now construction is underway on a new manor in its stead.[1]
