Dr.Muneer Al-Ali

Muneer Al-Ali, born 18 May 1944 in Al-Hindiya, Iraq. He is a urologic surgeon who also has authored and translated books about the relationship between faith and science between Arabic and English.. He is one of the pioneers of renal transplantation in the Middle East, in the seventies of the last century and co-founder of the Middle East Society of Organ Transplantation (MESOT) in 1987.

Medical career

He has two degrees, a Medical Bachelor(M.B.,Ch.B.),Medical College, University of Baghdad, Iraq, in 1966, and a Fellowship of Royal College Surgeons,Edinburgh, UK (FRCS), in 1974.

Al-Ali is a military urological and transplantation surgeon. In 1993, He left the military service at the rank of major-general. He migrated to Libya in 1994, then to New Zealand in 1997, as consultant urologist. He settled in the United Kingdom since 1999 and held a consultant urologist appointment until he retired in 2010.

Surgical innovations

He introduced surgical procedures and treatments for some urological diseases and major trauma:

1-Auto-transplantation of the kidney, to treat traumatic ureteric loss.

2-Staged total urethroplasty, to treat long urethral strictures involving both the anterior and posterior parts of the urethra.

3-Guided Optical Urethral Reconstruction (GOUR), to treat urethral occlusion after complicated severe urethral injury..

4-Posterior Trans-sphincteric Anterior Rectal wall Advancement (TSARA), to treat complicated large post-traumatic recto-urethral fistulae. .

5-Optical procedures to rehabilitate the neuropathic bladder due to spinal diseases or injuries.

Decorations

He earned a series of medals from the Iraqi government, which are ; High Order of Merit, Order of Al Rafidain (third degree), Order of the Revolution, and Order of Public Service.
