Dr. Anthony Chaffee
Dr. Anthony Chaffee is an American medical doctor specializing in neurosurgery, a former professional rugby player, and a prominent advocate of the carnivore diet.[1] He is known for promoting a meat-only dietary regimen, and asserts that that many chronic diseases can be mitigated or reversed through dietary changes.[2]
Early life and education
Chaffee began his university education at the age of 15, studying Molecular & Cellular Biology with a minor in chemistry at the University of Washington in Seattle. He later earned his medical degree from the Royal College of Surgeons.[3]
Medical career
Chaffee is a neurosurgical registrar based in Perth, Australia. In addition to his surgical training, he practices functional medicine, focusing on preventive care and nutrition. He has also volunteered as a doctor in refugee camps in Bangladesh, assisting survivors of the 2017 Rohingya genocide.[4]
Athletic career
Before pursuing medicine, Chaffee was an All-American rugby player and played professionally in England and the United States. He attributes his peak athletic performance to following a strict carnivore diet during his rugby career.[1]
Advocacy and media
Chaffee is the host of "The Plant Free MD" podcast, where he discusses topics related to nutrition and health. He also maintains a YouTube channel under the same name, sharing lectures and interviews promoting the carnivore diet.[5][6][7]
He has been featured in various media outlets and has participated in webinars where he discussed the benefits of a meat-only diet.[8]
Dietary philosophy
Chaffee asserts that chronic diseases, such as diabetes and autoimmune disorders, are linked to the consumption of plant-based foods and processed carbohydrates.[9] He suggests that the solution to these disorders is a carnivore diet, where the dieter consumes no fruits, vegetables, or carbs other than meat.[10][11]
He is also a proponent of the keto diet, a diet with limited proof of efficacy in treating obesity or diabetes.[12]
