Dr. Laurie Ann Perlman (born May 14, 1953) is an American clinical psychologist, author, and film producer.

Dr. Perlman is known for her practices as a spiritual psychologist. Dr. Perlman has mentioned she was intrigued by the concept of “life after life” from an early age, after reading a magazine interview with Dr. Elisabeth Kübler-Ross, a pioneer in near-death studies.[1] She is the founder and CEO of digital treatment tech company HERE Global.

Dr. Perlman has also appeared as a psychology expert on national television news programs including CNBC, MSNBC, Nightline, The View (talk show), Today (U.S. TV program).[2] She has been interviewed by Barbara Walters, Martin Bashir, & Hoda Kotb.

Early Life[edit]

Laurie Ann Perlman was born on May 14, 1953, in Miami Beach, Florida to Stanley Perlman and Germaine “Gerri” Perlman. Her father was a traveling salesman and her mother was a full-time homemaker. Dr. Perlman is of Jewish descent.[3]

In Dr. Perlman’s memoir, she writes that her home life was tumultuous and her parents were largely absent emotionally, leading her to spend much of her childhood alone in her room. Dr. Perlman credits these lonely years as the foundation of her affinity for storytelling and psychology.[4]

Career[edit]

Dr. Perlman studied at the University of Florida before transferring to the University of Southern California (USC), where she received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Cinema Production in 1976.[5]

Dr. Perlman began her career as a talent agent, working at Creative Artists Agency (CAA) under Ronald Meyer.[6] During her time at CAA, Dr. Perlman worked with Michael Jackson, Madonna (entertainer), Michael Keaton, Hugh Hudson, and others.[7] Dr. Perlman left CAA in 1985 to work as a film producer, developing and producing films including Lucky Stiff (film), Vital Signs (film), Big Girls Don't Cry... They Get Even, and The Man from Elysian Fields.[8]

Following the death of her mother, Dr. Perlman took a hiatus from producing to pursue a career in psychology.[9] She received her Psy.D in clinical psychology from Ryokan College in 1999.[10]

A firm believer in the afterlife and the soul’s ability to outlive the physical, Dr. Perlman saw a need to bring spirituality to psychology.[11] In 2004, Dr. Perlman founded Moonview Sanctuary, a "holistic healing institute" located in Santa Monica.[12] The center specialized in “customized treatment programs integrating cutting-edge neuroscience with a foundation of psychology, psychiatry, and ancient wisdom.”[13] Moonview’s staff of 60 on-call practitioners ranged in specialty from psychiatry, psychology, meditation, (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Chinese medicine, neurofeedback, biofeedback, nutrition counseling, meditation, yoga, and more.[14] In 2007, Dr. Perlman and Moonview Sanctuary were profiled in the annual A-List edition of W (magazine) as the best "New Age Healers."[15] Dr. Perlman served as Moonview’s CEO until it closed in 2012.

Dr. Perlman’s first book God the Universe and Where I Fit In, a memoir charting her journey as an intuitive from childhood to present, was published in 2009. The book garnered numerous accolades and awards, and took the Grand Prize in the 2010 Hollywood Book Festival.[16] Dr. Perlman's second book Life in Life, a spiritual meditation, was published in 2015. Both of Dr. Perlman's books received recognition in the People (magazine) “Picks” column.

In 2014, Dr. Perlman became a World Peace Advocate traveling the globe assisting in missions to accelerate the promise of peace as a legislative priority, nuclear disarmament, as well as, joining with spiritual leaders reimagining the ethos and education of our youth. Dr. Perlman has lectured and advocated for a unified agreement on the culture of peace at US Capitol, Japan Parliament, UN NYC, UN Nairobi, and Israel Knesset.

Using her expert training in trauma, intuition and universal spirituality, Dr. Perlman founded HERE Global to develop and deploy digital technology to alleviate trauma-based mental health issues around the world. Dr. Perlman authored the Mobile App, HERE, to ameliorate trauma through interactive meditations utilizing color and music therapy, all based in cutting edge neuroscience. The HERE app was launched on September 21, 2018 (International Day of Peace) with the support of the United Nations, during a worldwide peace broadcast hosted by UNIFY.[17] As CEO of HERE Global, Dr. Perlman also oversees the company's non-profit arm, HERE Global Relief. HERE Global Relief's mission is to ease human suffering with digital treatment technologies that help humanity triumph over trauma.
