Dr. Umar Rashad Ibn Abdullah-Johnson is a school psychologist, author, lecturer, and community activist whose ideology is Pan Africanism. Johnson is the author of the book, Psycho-Academic Holocaust: The Special Education & ADHD Wars Against Black Boys. Dr. Johnson has appeared as a guest on different talk shows such as the Breakfast Club, DJVlad. One on One With Roland Martin. Also, he has appeared in the first three volumes of the documentary series Hidden Colors., Out of Darkness, and Wilmington Fire. Currently, Dr. Johnson is in the process of building a private school for boys in Wilmington, Delaware in which the curriculum will be based on African centered principles and beliefs.

Biography

Dr. Umar Johnson was born Jermaine Shoemake on Wednesday August 21st, 1974 to Barbara Shoemake and Jamal Abdullah-Johnson in North Central Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His mother Barbara named him after her favorite singer Jermaine Jackson. Several years later after his parents got maried his father Jamal, a Muslim convert, decided to change the boy's name to Umar Rashad Ibn Abdullah-Johnson to reflect the family's Islamic way of life in which he and his younger siblings was raised under. During his childhood Johnson received a wealth of knowledge on his culture and race from his teachers and father. Johnson was educated at the School District of Philadelphia's Meade Elementary School, the now defunct Beeber Jr. High School, and became a 1992 graduated from the former Scotland School of Veterans' Children in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.

In the fall of 1992 Johnson enrolled at the Millersville University of Pennsylvania where he earned two bachelor of arts degrees in Political Science and Psychology. Johnson graduated from Millersville in the spring of 1997. Afterwards, Johnson returned to his native Philadelphia to attend Hannehmann University. After spending a year at Hannehmann Johnson transferred back to Millersville where he would earn his third degree, a master of science in School Psychology plus a license to practice in the state. Afterwards, Johnson once again returned back to Philadelphia and was hired as a school psychologist in the School District of Philadelphia. Several years later Johnson earned his fourth degree, a masters degree and in Education Leadership from Lehigh University of Pennsylvania. Johnson resigned from the school district and later became an assistant principal at charter school in the suburban city of Chester, Pennsylvania. During the spring of 2012 Johnson earned his fifth and sixth degrees, a masters and doctorates from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Clincal Psychology.

During his post-Millersville years Johnson was an active member of the Philadelphia chapter of the Universal Negro Improvment Association (UNIA) founded by the late Marcus Garvey where he'd later resigned.

Criticism

Dr Johnson has received harsh criticisms about his ideology and beliefs in which some consider him a fraud forfund raising tactics for his private school in Delaware. But Dr. Johnson insisted that he hasn't spent any of the money raised for his school.
